Halle Berry Celebrated Her 60th Birthday With Van Hunt During a Private Island Getaway

Halle Berry didn’t mark her 60th birthday with a red carpet event or a magazine cover shoot.

She marked it on a private island in Fiji, surrounded by her two children and her fiancé, musician Van Hunt, in what she later described online as one for the ages.

The trip was a family affair from the start. Berry brought along her daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry, and her son, Maceo-Robert Martinez, along with Hunt, spending the getaway hiking wooded trails, sailing & relaxing at the Kokomo Private Island resort.

Sharing photos from the trip, Berry thanked the resort staff directly and wrote that the vacation had been one for the ages, a caption that captured the tone of the whole trip better than any single photo did.

This particular birthday carries a bit more significance than most. Berry and Hunt got engaged earlier this year, meaning this Fiji trip doubled as their first birthday together as an engaged couple, not just another vacation with a longtime partner.

That context is easy to miss if you’re only looking at the vacation photos themselves, but it changes the shape of the story.

This wasn’t simply a celebrity relaxing before a milestone birthday, it was a specific, fairly new chapter of her personal life being marked for the first time.

Berry has been fairly open about how she actually feels heading into 60, rather than letting the milestone speak for itself. In a video filmed during the trip, she said she was celebrating two things at once, her birthday and, in her words, not quite believing how she got there while feeling more grateful for it every day.

She added that she’d never felt better, describing it as a state of mind, body, and spirit all at once, and dismissed the idea that a number should carry much weight at all.

That attitude isn’t new for her, and it lines up with comments she made recently on Making Space with Hoda Kotb, where she pushed back directly on a question she says she still gets asked constantly, whether it’s time to slow down after a long career.

Her answer was pointed. She described feeling like people expect women reaching a certain age to simply disappear into a permanent vacation, as though everything they’d built no longer had value, and said she’s regularly having to push back on that assumption in conversations with people around her.

That framing matters for understanding why this particular trip landed differently than a typical celebrity vacation post. It wasn’t staged around a press cycle or tied to a project she’s promoting.

It was personal, low key by design, and driven by people she’s actually close to rather than a wider publicity moment.

Compared to the kind of heavily produced birthday specials or magazine features that have marked big anniversaries for other major stars, Berry’s version leaned entirely the other way, informal photos, real family members, and her own voice doing the explaining rather than a press release.

Berry has spent more than three decades as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actresses, from her early breakout roles through her Academy Award winning performance in Monster’s Ball.

What this birthday trip suggests isn’t a shift away from that career, but a fairly clear statement about how she plans to keep experiencing the next chapter of it, on her own terms, with the people she’s chosen to spend it with, rather than according to whatever script Hollywood typically hands a major star turning 60.
